Faculty of Shariah and Law

Introduction

The faculty offers bespoke programs in Shariah and Law covering a multitude of disciplines. In addition to our local programmes, the faculty in collaboration with the University of the West of England offers an undergraduate law degree programme. Our faculty is committed to provide students with different learning opportunities towards which end, in addition to the classroom experience, students are required to engage in interaction with the legal community and the judiciary through courtroom placements and we provide an opportunity to bring a change through our experiential learning platform called Villa College Law Society.

Uza. Asna Ahmed

Dean

Asna Ahmed is the Dean of the Faculty of Shariah and Law at Villa College. She holds a Master of Law (LLM) in Commercial Law and has extensive experience as an in-house legal counsel advocate. She has... recently published a paper titled "Revisiting the Investment Opportunities in Intellectual Property" in 2022. Asna has previously taught modules such as Equity and Trust, Employment Law, Foundation for Law, and Foundation in Research. As the Dean, she coordinates LLB and LLM programs at the college.

Uza. Aishath Khaleela Abdul Sattar

Senior Lecturer

Aishath Khaleela Abdul Sattar is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Shariah and Law at Villa College. She holds a Master of Comparative Laws degree from International Islamic University Malaysia, a B...achelor of Sharia and Islamic Studies from United Arab University and has been teaching at Villa College for 3 years.

With over 80 completed workshops on Islamic Finance organized by the Faculty of Sharia at Kuwait University, she is a recognized expert in the field. She has also presented 6 papers in local and international conferences, apart from this she has published one book chapter and 5 papers in local and International refereed journals.

Aishath Khaleela Abdul Sattar has acquired a vast experience in higher education teaching and administration, she served as Vice Chancellor at the Islamic University of Maldives and served as a Member of Sharia Board at Bank of Maldives Islamic from 2019 till date. Her recent publication, titled "Tawarruq in Islamic Finance and its Contemporary Applications: An Analytical Study" was presented at the 1st International Conference on Islamic Economics in 2022.

Currently, she teaches Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamic Legal Maxims, Islamic Law of Transaction, and Islamic Family Law. Additionally, she coordinates the Bachelor's and Masters's programs in Shariah and Law and has developed the LLM in Shariah Law course.

Amish Abdulla

Lecturer

Amish Abdullah is a highly accomplished lecturer in the Faculty of Shariah and Law and Faculty of Business and Law at our college. With an LLM in Constitutional Law, he brings extensive experience to ...his role, having previously served as a Teaching Assistant and Assistant Professor (Visiting).

Amish's contributions to the field of law are significant. His recent publication, "Police Arbitrariness: A Comparative and Situational Analysis of Different States in India," is a valuable addition to the discourse on criminal justice administration in India. The book, edited by Dr. Tauheed Alam and published by IIP Iterative International Publishers, provides fresh insights into contemporary issues and challenges faced in India.
Moreover, Amish has presented several papers at prestigious international conferences, including his latest presentation at Villa College's International Conference ICSRI 2022, where he shared his research on "An Alternate to Imprisonment: A Way Forward to Reduce Overcrowding of Prisons of India and Maldives." His research interests lie in Constitutional law and socio-legal issues. In line with this, Amish is currently involved in a TStreet Law USA Inc. project on Cyber bullying and its Psychological Impact on Victims.

Amish currently teaches a range of courses such as Public Law, International Intellectual Property Law, Foundation for Research, and Constitutional Law (Maldivian and Comparative Constitution) at Villa College. He is also the coordinator for co-curricular activities such as experiential learning workshops, seminars, and conferences. Furthermore, he is actively involved in course development for the LLM Legal Practice and BSL Bachelor of Law and Political Science programs.

Amish has also contributed to panel discussions and chaired sessions at various conferences, including the AMITY INTERNATIONAL LITERATURE FESTIVAL 3.0, where he was a co-panelist for the discussion titled "Call the Shots to Your TBR (To Be Read) Files - Bookworm or a Dunce?" on the topic "Overflowing Information on the Internet: An Unintended Portal to Cyber Malpractice."

Finally, Amish is a member of several professional organizations, including the Bar Council of Delhi, India, and serves as a member of the editorial board for two international journals - the International Journal of Legal Research and Governance, and the International Journal of Dispute Resolution. His impressive record of research, teaching, and service to the profession make him a valuable asset to our college community.

Mohd Imran

Lecturer

Mr. Mohd Imran is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Shariah and Law at our institution. He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) from Faculty of Legal Studies, South Asian University, New Delhi and has a research i...nterest in the history and theory of international law, public international law, and international economic law.

Mr. Imran has authored several publications. His recent works include “Towards Remedying the Transcivilizational Neglect: Revisiting the Story of the Spanish Requerimiento” published by Third World Approaches to International Law Review, a book review of “International Humanitarian Law and Non-State Actors: Debates, Law and Practice” published by the Asian Journal of International Law and "Legal Personality of International Organizations: A Brief Survey" published in the IUP Law Review.

In terms of teaching, Mr. Imran is currently responsible for delivering modules in Introduction to Jurisprudence, International Contract Law, and Public International Law. He has also played an instrumental role in the development of several undergraduate courses, including the Bachelor of Shariah and Law with Political Science, Bachelor of Shariah and Law with International Relations, and Bachelor of Political Science and International Relations. Mr. Imran has prepared modules for Public International law, Alternative Dispute Redressal, and Research Methods.

With his extensive knowledge and experience in the field, Mr. Mohd Imran is a valuable member of our faculty, and we are proud to have him as part of our academic community.
